Dream-el
Dream-el, 2012
In this 2012 video work, I draw inspiration from the punk ethos, seeking to re-examine the boundaries of the medium itself. Through acts of destruction and disruption, I reveal the potential inherent in technological failure—the birth of a new language.
In the central piece, the act of drilling into the camera, accompanied by a failed attempt to document the tree outside the studio window and set to an original composition by violinist Asaf Maoz, transforms into an artistic act in its own right. The camera, a tool for documentation and recording, is intentionally destroyed, and that very destruction becomes the core content.
In another part of the work, two screens simultaneously display the sea's horizon line: one a stable record of it, the other a documentation of an attempt to saw the camera itself precisely along that line. Thus, the act of destruction is not merely the end of the medium, but also a starting point for exploring what lies beyond the perfect image—a search for a raw, momentary truth born from the very act of wounding.
